Chapter 34
YOUR HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT
Think about what you’d like to do with your life. Now think about a person who has already achieved that lifestyle. Study their life; learn their secrets; apply their wisdom.
They’ve already created a roadmap that can help guide you in the creation of your own dreams. Obviously, every human being is different, and certain elements won’t be universally applicable. However, if you take a look at their overall story, you’re certain to assimilate some quality information from their experiences.
Neale Donald Walsch said, “Experience is life’s greatest teacher.” I’ve always loved that quotation. However, during a recent sermon, Pastor Chris Hodges said, “Other people’s experience is life’s greatest teacher.” I love that quotation even more.
My life has certainly been a product of the latter. When I began my spiritual journey, I started reading books dealing with spiritual matters. Neale Donald Walsch was the most influential figure in my life. His Conversations with God books really opened my eyes regarding matters of the spirit. I immersed myself in his books—trying to find peace of mind. Then I expanded my reading. As I devoured book after book, I began absorbing the wisdom projected by the different authors. It was like downloading the brains of 100 men and women who were all smarter than I was. I started blogging on my website, trying to help others deal with the problematic areas in their own lives. I was able to follow the “roadmaps” of all these authors—learning about their own journeys, and I began to wonder if my journey would ever be “interesting enough” for a book format.
