Chapter 43
WHATEVER YOU WANT, GIVE TO ANOTHER
Neale Donald Walsch, in his book Conversations with God, said it beautifully:
“Whatever you choose for yourself, give to another. The very act of your giving something away causes you to experience that you have it to give away. Since you cannot give to another something you do not now have, your mind comes to a new conclusion, a New Thought about you—namely, that you must have this, or you could not be giving it away.”
I love that. And in order for me to love that, I must have love within my being. Since I have love within, I can now give that love away—if I choose. You can only give away what you already have within. You can only experience that which you are.
Think about any of the “things” you want to have in life. Let’s say you want a new house or car or mate. In reality, it’s not the house or car or mate that you really want; what you really want is the feeling you believe those things will give you.
If we look at things from that perspective, what you really want are the following feelings: security (house), accomplishment or status (car), and love (mate). You’re essentially looking for security, accomplishment, and love. You’re just using those material things as an artificial means to “get there.”
So if you choose to experience these things, all you have to do is give them away. You don’t have to give away a new house to experience security—cause someone else to feel secure, and you’ll create that feeling within yourself! After all, you can only give away that which you already possess. When you cause someone else to feel secure—by giving away the feeling of security—you cause yourself to realize (make real in your eyes) that you already are a secure person.
Wow. That’s beautiful. And so are you.
