Church of the Highlands

When it comes to attending church service in the Birmingham area, Church of the Highlands is my favorite place.

The services are always punctual, as the clock counts down to :00, signaling the start of service.

The worship portion of the service comes next.  Attendees are invited to sing along with the band/choir by following the words on two huge screens.  Contemporary Christian songs are performed by the band (who have the style and talent to play in any secular band) for approximately 30 minutes.

Attendees are encouraged to high-five their neighbors, and Pastor Chris Hodges begins his sermon.  The sermon lasts about 45 minutes.  Pastor Chris is a likable fellow, mixing humor and personal experience into messages that can easily be received by anyone.

Church of the Highlands is best known for focusing on the power of "small groups."  Countless "small group" categories are available to lend support in the many different challenging areas of life.

A wide genre of demographics can be seen appreciating Jesus at Church of the Highlands.  The main campus is on Grants Mill Road, just off Interstate 459.  Other campuses include: Greystone, Riverchase, Tuscaloosa, and Auburn.  Several service times are available at each campus.

They offer complimentary DVDs of each service.  And they offer free coffee.  Free coffee rules my life.

Now that I'm living in Richmond, I still watch their Sunday morning service(s) streaming LIVE online. You can too.
